Thailand Temple Trivia: Temple of the Emerald Buddha

Hello everyone!

As their main religion, Thai people have a high regard for Buddhism, which is why the Wats, or temples, are important. Thailand's most important Buddhist temple is Wat Phra Kaew, or the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, found within the grounds of the Grand Palace, in the historic centre of Bangkok.

Wat Phra Kaew, unlike other temples, doesn't contain living quarters for monks; but it has many elaborately carved holy buildings, sculptures, and pagodas.

This temples also houses the Emerald Buddha, or Phra Kaew Morakot: the highly revered Buddha image, carved completely from a single block of jade, and is covered with a seasonal robe. It is raised on a series of platforms, and no one is allowed near the image except for HM the King.

A guide is on duty from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, and Personal Audio Guides (PAGs) are available in English, and many other languages.
There is, however, an ADMISSION FEE of 400 baht for this temple.

Kim and I will soon post more about the temples in Bangkok and Koh Samui.
