Hello to all you readers!
As you may (or may not) already know, the group is heading off to the island of Koh Samui, Thailand. The island's most famous landmark is the Big Buddha, mostly because of its size. This large, golden statue can be seen from many miles away, and especially from the air when planes land and take off.
It was constructed in 1972, and resides in the Big Buddha Temple, or Wat Phra Yai, which is located on Koh Samui's northeastern shore, and is popular with both visitors and locals.
The Big Buddha is twelve metres high, and sits at the top row of wide, decorated steps. Several shops and restaurants can be found at its base. When the sun goes down, the Buddha is bathed in floodlights, and appears to be the island's great guardian.
